5 Things That Make a Listing Transferable (and 5 That Don’t)

Some bookings can be saved and resold, and some genuinely cannot. Knowing the difference before you invest any time or money is the single most useful skill on either side of the resale market. Here is the short checklist we apply to every enquiry.

Usually transferable

Hotel and resort stays where the lead guest name can be amended, which is the majority. Cruises from lines that allow a cabin name change, subject to their fee and cutoff window. Vouchers, gift cards, spa passes and experience days, which were rarely tied to a specific person to begin with. Memberships and passes issued to a name that can be updated on request. And guided tours or multi-day packages with flexible participant details.

Usually not transferable

Airline tickets locked to the passenger name, which cannot be reassigned at check-in. Event tickets with no transfer or name-change option and no issuer policy that allows it. Bookings already past their transfer or name-change deadline. Vouchers that are expired or partly redeemed. And anything whose issuer simply refuses a change without exception.

The grey zone

Between the two sits a smaller group where the answer depends on the specifics of the booking, not the category. A hotel that allows name changes for some rate plans but not others. A cruise line with a change window that varies by route. This is precisely why we confirm with the issuer every single time, rather than relying on what a category generally allows.

The only rule that matters

Never assume. An item you are sure transfers might not, and an item you are sure is worthless might move easily. The cost of guessing wrong is the whole value of the booking on one side, and a bad purchase on the other. Not sure which category yours falls into? Send it to us and we will confirm it directly with the provider, free of charge. It is the cheapest decision you will make all week.
